Jackie Leonard Roop, 80, of Dublin, born May 9, 1945, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family Thursday, July 17, 2025.
After serving in the U.S. Navy for four years, Jackie went to work as a patrolman for the Radford Police Department, where he moved up in rank to captain over the course of his career, before retiring after 25 years of service. He loved fishing and hunting and spending time with his family. Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, Logan John and Faye Roop; and his siblings, Sarah East, John Haven Roop, and Mackie Eastridge.
Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Brenda Thornton Roop; daughters and their spouses, Tammy Surface (Alan), and Michelle Collins (Delbert); grandchildren, Paige Collins (Jarad), Brett Surface, Savannah Gray (Matthew), and Duncan Collins (Lauren); seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, George East; and many other relatives and special friends.
The family would like to thank Denise Woods, Michael and Judy Thornton, and ACG Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Jack and the family during this time.
Jackie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family received friends Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services followed with Rev. Darlene Marshall officiating. Burial with full military honors followed in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Jackie’s name to Healing Hearts Canine Rescue, 3430 Lee Hwy, Draper, VA 24324.
