Bishop steps down at BHS
Blacksburg High School announced today that Travis Bishop has resigned as head coach of the girls soccer program, effective immediately.
Bishop has served as head coach since 2004, leading the program with dedication and a strong commitment to both athletic and academic excellence. During his tenure, the Bruins complied a 34-6-2 overall record and qualified for the Virginia Group 4A State quarterfinals.
In 2024 and 2025, Blacksburg was awarded the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award as well as the Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award and continued to build on the school’s tradition of excellence in athletics. Bishop has been with the girls program for six years and was with the boys soccer program at Blacksburg for 16 years. Earlier this month, he was named the all-county/all-city girls’ soccer coach of the year.
“This was a difficult decision, but the right time for me to step aside,” Bishop said. “It has been a privilege to coach at Blacksburg High School and to work with such a talented and hardworking group of student-athletes. I am grateful for the support of the players, families, and school community throughout my time here.”
