This Tuesday, Nov. 4, voters will be heading to the polls to choose state and local officials, from the governor’s office to the Attorney General’s office, Virginia House of Delegates, town councils, school board and board of supervisors.
At the top of the ticket is the race for governor, with Abagail D. Spanberger (D) facing Winsome Earles-Sears (R). For lieutenant governor, Ghazala F. Hashmi (D) is running against John J. Reid, II (R). The attorney general’s election has Jay C. Jones (D) facing incumbent Attorney General Jason S. Miyares (R). The House of Delegates District 41 race has Lily V. Franklin (D) facing incumbent Del. J. Christian “Chris” Obenshain (R).
Three spots on Christiansburg Town Council are being contested with only one incumbent, Tanya Hockett. Other candidates include Josh Byran, Harry Collins, Matthew Hicks, Elizabeth Umberger and Christine Waltz.
Also, incumbent Christiansburg Mayor Michael Barber faces competition from former Christiansburg school administrator Carl Pauli. Barber, who is a retired banker, is seeking his fourth term.
In Blacksburg, Peter Macedo and current vice-mayor Michael Sutphin are seeking the mayoral post. Blacksburg Mayor Leslie Hager-Smith did not seek reelection.
Blacksburg Town Council candidates Susan G. Anderson, Darryl Campbell, Lauren Colliver, Joel Goodhart and James Harder are seeking one of three seats. Anderson and Colliver are incumbents.
The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors have three candidates for three districts: Todd King (District D), Steve Fijalkowski (District C) and Gunin Kiran (District A).
Four candidates are on the ballot for the Montgomery County School Board. Incumbents Dana Partin (District C) and Jamie Bond (District D) are seeking reelection. Partin faces competition from Adam Ryan in District C, while Matthew Roberts is running for District A.
