Lovely barn, foggy morning attract photographers

Mike Gummer of Christiansburg won The Radford Photo Club’s November challenge, barns, with a photo taken on his second visit to photograph this handsome Shawsville barn.

“The painted tin roof and dual silos combine for a rather unique look,” he said. “The autumn colors and hay bales provided extra visual appeal. Weathered old barns make great photo subjects, and I’ll likely be back to shoot this one again.”

Tracy Burlingame of Riner decided to bring her camera on her morning walk and won the club’s open category competition.

“It was a foggy morning and I thought I could get some good photos,” she said. “The sun was rising just at the right time. The beams were just coming through the tree beautifully.”

A photo shoot outing is planned for Monday, Dec.15, at 10 a.m. at the Inn at Virginia Tech to photograph the holiday decorations. Contact if you intend to come: mrsjafranklin@hotmail.com

The next meeting is Thursday, Dec. 18, at 6 p.m. at the Radford Public Library. There is no theme for the meeting. Attendees are encouraged to bring their five best or favorite photos from 2025 on a thumb drive. Also bring snacks.

The January meeting date will be announced when confirmed. The January theme will be holiday lights.

The Photo Club has two upcoming shows. One will be at the Glencoe Mansion in Radford during February and one will be at the Fine Arts Center of the New River Valley in Pulaski in April and May. There will be more information about participating on The Radford Photo Club Facebook page.

Club officers are Tracy Burlingame, Chuck Lynch of Christiansburg, and Jennifer Franklin of Pulaski.
