Ho ho ho! Santa here, reporting straight from the jolly headquarters at the North Pole! On a very merry day, we packed up the sleigh and flew down to the YMCA at Virginia Tech to sprinkle Christmas cheer all around. And oh, what a celebration it was.

The YMCA transformed into a cozy holiday wonderland, twinkling with festive decorations that warmed hearts the moment families walked through the door. My elves and I greeted everyone with big smiles and even bigger hugs (and yes, plenty of “ho ho ho’s” for good measure!). Parents snapped photos of their little ones with yours truly – creating memories that will last longer than Rudolph’s nose shines!

But the real magic? The Kids-Only Holiday Shopping Village!

Children up to age 12 became honorary elves for the day, exploring tables filled with treasures to find the perfect gifts for their families. And because we believe every child should feel the joy of giving, gifts were offered at minimal prices – making this experience accessible to families who need it most. After all, Christmas is about sharing love, not stretching wallets!

Once the gifts were chosen, the fun continued at our eco-friendly gift-wrapping station, thanks to our partners at Sustainable Blacksburg. Kids wrapped their presents with care, adding festive touches that made each gift sparkle with personality. Watching their proud smiles as they prepared surprises for their loved ones? Pure holiday magic!

Throughout the day, laughter echoed, friendships blossomed, and the spirit of giving filled every corner of the YMCA. This event wasn’t just about presents – it was about community, connection, and creating joyful moments that remind us what the season is truly about.

And here’s a little secret from Santa: the magic doesn’t stop after Christmas! The YMCA Thrift Shop offers an inexpensive, year-round way to shop, providing donated new and gently used items to the community. It’s a wonderful resource for families looking for affordable options while supporting sustainability and local programs. So even when the sleigh is back at the North Pole, you can keep the spirit of giving alive all year long!
