Christiansburg takes third at Big Blue tournament

Christiansburg used two individual titles enroute to a third-place team finish Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Big Blue wrestling tournament.

The host team climbed from 12th place after day one to almost claiming their own invitational.

Brady Hand took a 17-5 decision in the finals for first place at 150 pounds, while Jake Robie rolled in a 7-1 decision in the 190 class.

Ft. Mill South Carolina won the team title with 275 points, while Salem was second with 198.5. Christiansburg tallied 162.5 points to out distance fourth place Grayson, who recorded 153.5 points. Glenvar finished fifth and Blacksburg 14th.

Hand also received MVP honors and the Kip Nininger Scholarship.

Christiansburg gained runner ups in their respective weight classes, with Noah Smith at 120, Caleb Russell at 126 and Dillenge Collins at 132 pounds.
