Food City has announced a partnership with Virginia’s American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250) in support of the VA250 Mobile Museum Experience.

“As we prepare to celebrate American’s Semiquincentennial, Food City is excited to partner with VA250 in support of this exciting project. The Mobile Museum Experience will provide consumers and students an opportunity to learn more about the vital role that Virginia played in America’s rich history in a vibrant and engaging format that really brings these stories to life,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.

The VA250 Mobile Museum Experience tells the story of Virginia’s pivotal role in the American Revolution. From Patrick Henry’s 1775 cry, “Give me Liberty, or Give me Death” to General George Washington’s victory at the Siege of Yorktown in 1781, all Virginians played critical roles in the sacrifice, strife, and ultimate earning of American independence. “Out of Many, One: The VA250 Mobile Museum Experience” tells their stories – and America’s history, made in Virginia.

The newly built VA250 Mobile Museum was specifically designed to include pertinent content relative to Southwest Virginia’s rich heritage. Food City pledged $100,000 in support of the project. The VA250 Mobile Museum Experience will be on site at select Virginia Food City locations throughout the year (more details to follow). Consumers will be able to enjoy FREE guided museum tours during these exciting events. The VA250 Mobile Museum will be hosting events at every area Virginia middle school over the next two years as well.

“We are grateful to Food City for their support of the Mobile Museum. As we approach our nation’s 250th anniversary, it’s so important for Virginians to understand the Commonwealth’s role in the fight for independence. The Mobile Museum is an incredible resource, providing a remarkable way to learn from, engage with, and be inspired by not only the ideas and ideals put forth 250 years ago, but also the stories of the people that ‘blazed a trail’ for countless Virginians to make a difference in their communities across the Commonwealth in the subsequent generations,” said Cheryl Wilson, executive director of VA250.
