The Rho chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa has welcomed two new members.
Katie Newman and Julie Stanley are teachers in Montgomery County. Newman is a special education teacher at Belview Elementary. Stanley is a gifted resource specialist at Prices Fork and Belview Elementary schools. Both have been honored by their schools as the “Teacher of the Year.”
Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization for women educators. It began in 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri, to empower women through professional fellowship and to recognize educational excellence. Alpha Delta Kappa also promotes altruism/ community service and world understanding. Recent international projects have been building and opening schools in Tanzania and supporting literacy through bookmobiles and reading programs for the Lakota/Sioux tribes in South Dakota. The international organization also supports the Alzheimer’s Association and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Locally, the chapter supports MCPS schools, having “adopted” Montgomery Central for this school year. Rho chapter also participates in food drives, Christmas Store collections, Wreaths Across America and the Imagination Library.
