A mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain blanketed the New River Valley on Saturday and Sunday, cancelling everything from church services to schools and university classes and closing many businesses.
The precipitation totals were lower than the forecast had predicted earlier in the week, but the winter weather still had a big impact on the region, making travel on local roads, highways and Interstate 81 difficult.
