Several Blacksburg High School track and field participants have signed letters of intent to continue their athletic career at the next level.

Three student-athletes signed on the dotted line this past week in front of friends, family and coaches.

Senior thrower Molly Lyon is headed to East Tennessee State University. She has competed in the shotput and discus for four years at BHS and will continue as a thrower at the collegiate level in the hammer and weight throw as well as shotput and discus.

Benjamin Bailey, a senior cross country and track and field athlete, will finalize his commitment to continue his academic and athletic career at Bucknell University. He started running for Blacksburg Middle School in the sixth grade and has continued to

compete for Blacksburg ever since. He was a member of the BHS cross country state championship team all four years of high school and competed at three of those state championships earning all-state honors in two. He is a team captain of the cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track teams.

Bailey plans on majoring in Business Analytics at Bucknell University.

Tess Dickhans, a senior distance runner, will continue her academic and athletic career at Appalachian State University. Dickhans has been a four-year state qualifier and varsity member for cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. She has accumulated six individual All-State and 14 relay All-State accolades so far and shares the school record with her teammates for the indoor and outdoor 4x400m relays.

Dickhans plans to major in Kinesiology, with a minor in business at App State, before pursuing dental school.
