I say, “Spring has sprung,” and then I see it is 40 at nine in the morning. Well, spring can’t be far away. I have been tired of winter for two months. I don’t care what that groundhog in Vermont or New Hampshire said about six more weeks of winter. The groundhog is in the north, and I am in the south and I say it is past time for winter to end.
When I was young, I was not that excited about cold weather, even with the chance of missing some days from school. You just have to make it up later when it is warm and you want to be outside
I have a big hill behind my house, on a sled you can really move, which is great. The bad part about that when you reach the bottom you need to climb back to the top, as my hill did not have a ski lift. Go down the hill a couple of times and you are ready for a nap.
So, I am more than happy to see spring. I am not sure if I am ready to run a 10-miler, but I can handle a nice walk. I have found it is not all that bad. When walking first thing you don’t feel as though you are going to die after running a block. You don’t sweat that much, and people think you are cool when you wave as you walk by. Unfortunately, even with the walk I still need the nap. As you can see, my life has become one nap after another no matter what the season, or the occasion.
One of the best features of spring is no heat or air conditioning, time to do something else with our money. Unfortunately, this year it is buying gas. I was on a bus tour last month; the driver told me it cost him $1,300 to fill the bus tank.
Walking is cheaper and spring is a good time of the year to try. Everything and everybody get a new start in life. Like the flowers and trees, they have new blossoms. All the old parts of the vegetation have fallen off and been ranked away.
Now, for us humans, it is not that easy. Getting a new start is losing twenty pounds, having better posture by standing up straighter and improving your attitude toward life. A smile now and then and a friendly hello can change any situation.
Not to be too pushy, we can all try to be better people. It is worth a try, it’s spring.
