Spring Leaf Mulch Distribution
Leaf mulch is available for pick up at Glade Road Growing, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Loose and bagged leaves collected by the Town of Blacksburg are composted into leaf mulch. This mulch can be used as a soil additive, for composting. This is an important service as composted leaf mulch keeps leaves out of landfills. Leaves can take up valuable landfill space and produce harmful greenhouse gases.
To arrange pickup, residents must register and follow the guidelines below. Register for a 30-minute time slot. Time slots are in 30-minute intervals starting at 8 a.m. Limit two cubic yards per truck or trailer. The town will load your truck or trailer.
Earth Fest
New community event celebrating local agriculture, family fun and sustainability, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., Christiansburg Huckleberry Park. Day begins with a 5k around the park at 11 a.m. Register by April 10 at christianburg.org. After the 5k, spend the afternoon exploring live farm animals, hands-on 4-H activities, outdoor yoga (1 – 2 p.m.) and a farmers-only produce market with the very best of local agriculture. Food and beverage trucks will be on site. Live performance by Travis Reigh at 5 p.m. Be sure to bring your lawn chair.

65th International Street Fair
At Alumni Mall at Virginia Tech, 12- 5 p.m. Learn about customs and traditions from international and cultural student organizations at VT. Visit booths and be transported to countries with demonstrations, cultural displays, music, and students dressed in traditional wear. Interactive presentations, traditional games, arts, crafts, and items available for purchase. Taste foods from all over the globe with many cultural food trucks from all over Virginia. Events begin with a Global Cultural Parade. Watch cultural performances with dancers, singers, and other talented instrumental artists on the big stage just in front of Torgerson Bridge.

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting
Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.
Radford City Council meeting
The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.

The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.
Christiansburg Town Council meeting

Law Day with the Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society
At the Radford Public Library, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come to the library to have your legal questions answered. The Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society (SVLAS) hosts several Law Day events across Southwest Virginia in an effort to provide free legal advice from licensed attorneys to the public on topics such as family law, real estate, estate planning, and more. The SVLAS is a non-profit legal firm dedicated to helping low-income families and individuals. This event will feature free legal advice from qualified professional as well as informational resources.
Introducing the New River Ordnance Plant
Dennis Kitts returns to Warm Hearth Village at 2 p.m. for Part Two of the RAAP story, focusing on the New River Ordnance Plant—Dublin’s Bagging Plant. Discover its impact on our region and its connection to the years leading into the Korean Conflict. A Q&A session will follow. Kitts is an historian and author is a retired Manager of Training and Development at the Radford Arsenal with nearly 30 years of service. As the official historian and author of the 75th Anniversary history of the Radford Ordnance Works, he is known for his engaging storytelling that brings to life the people, challenges, and triumphs that shaped this chapter of Virginia’s past. Christiansburg spring clean-up
Place your cleanup items outside at any time between April 13-24, and crews will be by in the next few weeks to pick them up. To make the collection easier on our crews, please place cleanup items within 10 feet of the street pavement and separate them from your regular trash. Please also separate materials by type (bagged leaves, brush, furniture, etc.) and do not block drainage ditches, gutters, sidewalks, water meters, or sewer cleanouts. The Town of Blacksburg refreshing community brand and is seeking community input. Blacksburg is partnering with Arnett Muldrow & Associates to capture the character, spirit, and stories that make Blacksburg a welcoming, vibrant, and innovative place to live, work, study, and visit. But a brand isn’t created by consultants, it’s created by community. The survey is currently available on Let’s Talk Blacksburg and will be open until Friday, May 1.
