Weekly reports: Auburn takes one run game

The Auburn softball team defeated Grayson County 1-0 on Friday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

Skyler Hodges and Faith Wilson each pitched in the game. Wilson induced a groundout from Madey Phipps to get the last out. Both teams were strong in the circle. Auburn pitchers struck out eight, while Grayson sat down two.
Auburn got on the board in the first inning after Hope Wilson drew a walk, scoring one run.
Hodges earned the win for Auburn, surrendering three hits and zero runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Rachel Sage took the loss for Grayson. The right-handed pitcher went six innings, giving up one run on six hits, striking out two and walking four. Wilson tossed one and one-third innings of shutout ball for Auburn in relief. The reliever gave up one hit, striking out none and walking none.
Ariel Mullins led Auburn with two hits in two at bats.
Blacksburg boys remain undefeated

Blacksburg (10-0 record) defeated Hidden Valley (3-4-1 record), 4-0. The Bruins led 3-0 at the half on goals by Keanan Kopp, Craig Huxtable and Brendan Osebre.

Huxtable scored again in the third minute of the second half. Kopp, Peyton Cruise, and Ethan Lowdermilk recorded assists for Blacksburg.

Bruin goalkeepers Nathan Pratt (one save), Toby Jones (one save), and Landon Daily (two saves) shared the shutout.

Auburn drops second in a row

Auburn this past week fell 15-4 in six innings Grayson County. The Blue Devils pounded out 14 hits and took advantage of seven Eagle errors to pick up the win.

Colin Roark drove in three runs with a hit and a sacrifice fly and Alex Young had two hits for Auburn. Jayden Lawrence collected a hit and scored two runs.

Fort shuts out Auburn
In a battle of MED leaders, Ft. Chiswell shutout Auburn 4-0. The Pioneers collected five of their seven hits in the fourth inning and scored all four of their runs to take the win.

Alex Young pitched three innings of two hit baseball with two strikeouts. Colin Roark collected two of the Eagles four hits including a double.

Auburn softball over Fort

Leah Wimmer drove in six runs on two hits to lead Auburn past Fort Chiswell 17-2 on Tuesday. Wimmer hit a grand slam to left field in the first inning, scoring four runs, and singled in the second inning, scoring two.
Auburn got on the board in the top of the first inning after Kaylee Ramrattan singled, scoring one run, and Wimmer hit a grand slam to left field.
Auburn scored six runs on six hits in the top of the second inning. Ramrattan doubled, scoring one run, Ariel Mullins singled, scoring two runs, Kaylen Mitcham doubled, scoring one run, and Wimmer singled, scoring two runs.

Auburn added one run in the third. Mullins singled to right field, making the score 12-1.
Skyler Hodges started the game, allowing six hits and two runs over three and one-third innings, striking out four and walking one.

Annalees Kuehl opened the game for Fort Chiswell, giving up 12 hits and 17 runs (10 earned) over five innings, striking out one and walking six. Faith Wilson threw one and two-thirds innings of no-run ball for Auburn, allowing zero hits, striking out none and walking none.
Auburn piled up 12 hits in the game. Mullins went 4-for-4 at the plate. Ramrattan and Hope Wilson each collected multiple hits. Mitcham led Auburn with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Wilson and Johnnie Gaynor each stole multiple bases for Auburn. who ran wild on the base paths, collecting eight stolen bases for the game.
