Law Day with the Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society

At the Radford Public Library, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come to the library to have your legal questions answered. The Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society (SVLAS) hosts several Law Day events across Southwest Virginia to provide free legal advice from licensed attorneys to the public on topics such as family law, real estate, estate planning and more. The SVLAS is a non-profit legal firm dedicated to helping low-income families and individuals. This event will feature free legal advice from qualified professionals as well as informational resources.

 

Introducing the New River Ordnance Plant 

Dennis Kitts returns to Warm Hearth Village at 2 p.m. for Part Two of the RAAP story, focusing on the New River Ordnance Plant—Dublin’s Bagging Plant. Discover its impact on our region and its connection to the years leading into the Korean Conflict. A Q&A session will follow. Kitts is an historian and author is a retired Manager of Training and Development at the Radford Arsenal with nearly 30 years of service. As the official historian and author of the 75th Anniversary history of the Radford Ordnance Works, he is known for his engaging storytelling that brings to life the people, challenges, and triumphs that shaped this chapter of Virginia’s past. Pulling Threads movie screening

At the Alexander Black House, 204 Draper Rd. SW, Blacksburg, 7 p.m. Whether you’re a student, parent, teacher, or community member, you won’t want to miss this special film screening opportunity to embark on a journey of self-discovery and reflection, woven through powerful threads of personal stories, self-determination, and authentic portrayals of disability. Hosted in collaboration with the I’m Determined Center at James Madison University. *This film portrays the realities of teenage and young adult life and the challenges and tensions that can arise within relationships. Families are encouraged to consider the maturity of its themes for younger viewers. The movie starts at 7:30pm, but attendees are encouraged to come at 7:00pm for snacks and refreshments.

RSVP is required at the Blacksburg Museum & Cultural Foundation’s website for this FREE screening. The event is capped at 50. If full, please email info@blacksburghistory.org to be added to a waitlist.

Rotary Run for the Roses Derby Day Party

 

The Rotary Club of Blacksburg is hosting a Derby Day Party at the Blacksburg Country Club, 5:30 – 8 p.m. Come watch the fastest two minutes in sports in the Banquet Hall, 1024 Clubhouse Dr. Purchase tickets at BlacksburgRotary.org. Individual tickets are $60 (includes one drink ticket). VIP tickets are $100 (includes one drink ticket and a $50 horse bet ticket.) Put on your big hats and your best Derby wear, come enjoy mint juleps, heavy hors d’oeuvres, silent auction bidding, games and prizes! Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting

Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

 

Radford City Council meeting

The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.

Blacksburg Town Council meeting

The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.

 

Christiansburg Town Council meeting

At 7 p.m. at Town Hall,100 E. Main St., Christiansburg. This is a regular meeting of town council. The meeting will be live streamed to the Town’s YouTube page at www.christiansburg.org/YouTube. Please copy and paste the URL into your browser and be sure to select Live videos to view. Agendas and minutes can be viewed at www.christiansburg.org/agendasandminutes.

The Town of Blacksburg refreshing community brand and is seeking community input. Blacksburg is partnering with Arnett Muldrow & Associates to capture the character, spirit, and stories that make Blacksburg a welcoming, vibrant, and innovative place to live, work, study, and visit. But a brand isn’t created by consultants, it’s created by community. The survey is currently available on Let’s Talk Blacksburg and will be open until Friday, May 1.
