Blacksburg town council has approved a $57 million 2026-2027 budget with no new tax increase.
The real property tax rate for the calendar year 2026 will be $.26 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation.
The town’s total budget will be $57,716,491. While there is no increase in the overall tax rate, last week’s vote did include a rise in water and sewer rates.
The water billing service charge inside corporate limits will increase from $3.27 to $3.47 plus from $7.36 to $7.80 for each 1,000 gallons or fraction thereof. Billing service charge outside corporate limits will rise from $5.72 to $6.06 plus from $12.88 to $13.65 for each 1,000 gallons or fraction thereof.
Where a customer is not served by the town water system, the sewer service charges shall be as follows: Monthly charge inside corporate limits will increase from $47.43 to $50.28 for each equivalent unit. Monthly charge outside corporate limits will increase from $83.00 to $87.98 for each equivalent unit.
Community support included in the new budget includes the following:
- New River Valley Agency on Aging to $9,800 from the town manager’s recommendation of $9,350.
- Cayambis Institute for Latin American Studies in Music to $500 from the town manager’s recommendation of $400.
- Literacy New River Valley to $4,200 from the town manager’s recommendation of $3,500.
- YMCA at Virginia Tech to $4,000 from the town manager’s recommendation of $3,500.
- Onward New River Valley to $5,500 from the town manager’s recommendation of $5,250.
- Lyric Council-Capital/Operating to $20,000 from the town manager’s recommendation of $15,000.
- Blacksburg Master Chorale to $1,100 from the town manager’s recommendation of $1,000.
- Wonder Universe to $3,500 from the town manager’s recommendation of $3,000.
- Live Work Eat Grow to $20,000 from the town manager’s recommendation of $15,000.
- Blacksburg Refugee Partnership to $5,000 from the town manager’s recommendation of $0.
