The Rotary Club of Christiansburg-Blacksburg presented its 2025-2026 Career and Technical Education (CTE) Scholarships to four Montgomery County Public School graduating seniors at the club’s May 4 meeting.
One student from each Montgomery County high school was recognized for excelling as a CTE student. The scholarship is meant to help the student further their education in their chosen CTE field through study at a trade school, community college, apprenticeship program, college, or university and can be used for tuition, books, tools, licensing exams, or other required costs for furthering their education. The scholarships are made in commemoration of two of Rotary’s five “Avenues of Service” – (1) Empowering Youth and (2) The Importance of All Vocations.
The scholarship also celebrates outstanding personal character and high ethical standards, which Rotary Clubs throughout the world value and promote in their members and in the community. This commitment to good character and high ethics is enshrined in the Rotary Code of Conduct and in the Rotary Four-Way Test: “Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”
Graduating seniors receiving the CTE Scholarships are Nevada Atkins of Auburn High School who was an essential member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter and plans to pursue a Business degree, likely at Ferrum College; Jaden Do of Blacksburg High School who studied Graphics and Advertising Design and plans to major in Graphic Design at Radford University; Reece Masri of Christiansburg High School who studied Robotics and plans to major in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech; and Caleb Jones of Eastern Montgomery High School who will continue his studies at New River Community College.
The Rotary Club of Christiansburg-Blacksburg has exemplified the Rotary motto of Service Above Self in the community for over 100 years. Career and Technical Education Scholarships, Professional Leadership and Citizen of the Year Awards, and local and international service projects, as well as participation in Rotary International programs such as PolioPlus exemplify this motto.
