Montgomery County leaders have approved a one-time bonus for county employees.

This past week, supervisors agreed to the amount of $707,630.

Recently, the state approved a two percent bonus for locally supported state employees effective June 1.

Funding sources are comprised of undesignated general fund balance ($454,085), state funds ($223,873), and recovered costs ($29,672). The breakdown includes $120,319 for general government administration, $49,049 for judicial administration, $278,730 for public safety, $76,426 for general services, $78,264 for health and welfare, $53,208 for parks/recreation, and $51,634 for community development.

Montgomery County has received news from Virginia Association of Counties (VACo) for a special achievement award from this past year. The locality received the recognition for Coordinated Crisis Response for a Hurricane Helene Boil Water effort.

The recognition said: “Montgomery County faced a significant public health and communication challenge following Hurricane Helene in September 2024, when severe sediment in the New River compromised regional water treatment operations. A boil water advisory was issued affecting approximately 100,000 citizens, including the Towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg, Virginia Tech, hospitals, and K–12 schools. Initially expected to last only a few days, the advisory extended to 12 days and required a phased lifting process. In response, Montgomery County rapidly established a multi-agency Water Task Force to coordinate operations and communication across jurisdictions.”

In other matters, supervisors proclaimed National Men’s Health Week as June 15-21,

2026.
