Christiansburg takes second in 3D meet

Christiansburg High School finished second in the girls’ competition held Thursday, May 28 on its home track.

Abingdon took the team title with 134.5 points. Christiansburg tallied 116 to third place William Byrd’s 68.5 points.

In the boys’ competition, Christiansburg finished fifth with 51 points as Cave Spring took the team title with 101 points, narrowing beating Lord Botetourt with 99 and third place Pulaski with 68 points.

Mariah Reed led the Blue Demons’ girls with first place finishes in both the 1,600 and 3,200 events.

Abbey Nicholson finished second in the 800 with teammate Kaylin Larimer in fourth place. Larimer also finished fourth in the 1,600. Riley Larimer was second in the 3,200.

Christiansburg’s Grace Ballard finished second in both the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Meanwhile Ayva Hale finished fourth in the triple jump, second in the discus and third in the shot.

Jenna Saia and Kaylin Larimer gave Christiansburg 1-2 in the pole vault with Saia going 9-9. Larimer tied for second.

The girls’ 4X100 and 4X400 relay teams finished third in both events.

On the boys’ side of the track. Reece Hubble was the only champion for Christiansburg. He won the discus with a heave of 149-0 and finished second in the shot.

Tyler Gaston captured third in the 300 hurdles and Jack Fraser was fourth in the 3,200.
