Mike Young and the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team announced the signing of 6-foot-8 guard Eltayeb Eltayeb Friday.
The Omdurman, Sudan native played last season at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas where he was named a Prep All-American. Altayeb averaged 21.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. He was also better than 43% from beyond the arc and was a scorching 72% on field goals inside the arc.
Big South commissioner to Women’s Basketball Committee
Three new administrators have been named to the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee: Sara Elcano (Oregon State), Annie Fiorvanti (UConn) and Sherika Montgomery (Big South Conference). All terms are set for five years and begin on Sept. 1.
Montgomery is the commissioner of the Big South Conference and is the conference’s first appointment to the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee. She was the two-time chair of the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics and most recently served as the vice chair of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament Selection Committee. Montgomery is a former basketball student-athlete.
ACC 17 bowl opportunities
The Atlantic Coast Conference is set for another national postseason showcase, as the ACC, ESPN and Bowl Season announced the 2026 bowl schedule today.
The ACC’s 2026 postseason lineup is inclusive of 17 possible bowl destinations, highlighted by 15 which will be featured on ABC and ESPN. The confirmed dates, kickoff times and broadcast information are listed below with the Holiday Bowl to be announced at a later date.
The announcement comes as anticipation builds for the 2026-27 postseason and College Football Playoff. The NCAA and CFP announced the schedule for the 12-team playoff format earlier this week, setting the stage for another exciting bowl season across the college football landscape.
Ball all-region
Emerging as one of the region’s best second basemen this season, Virginia Tech freshman infielder Ethan Ball was named to the 2026 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Atlantic All-Region First Team, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Ball was one of three freshmen who earned 2026 Atlantic All-Region honors, sharing in First Team recognition with pitcher Caden Glauber (North Carolina) ahead of Second Team outfielder Rett Johnson (NC State). Within Virginia Tech’s award history, Ball became the
Making all but four of his 54 starts at second base, Ball batted .310 and slugged .660 during his rookie season with the Hokies, leading the club in doubles (18), home runs (17), RBIs (52) and OPS (1.081). On the diamond, he turned 17 double plays and sported a .994 fielding percentage, committing one error spanning 178 defensive chances.
Clary moves to administrative role
Radford University announced on Thursday that Carlie Clary will move from the women’s basketball office to the administrative office as the new Director of Business Operations. Clary previously was the Director of Women’s Basketball Operations, a post the Radford alumnus held for seven seasons. She spent the previous nine within the women’s basketball program.
Hash new assistant coach
Radford women’s basketball head coach Mike McGuire announced Thursday morning that Michala Hash has joined the coaching staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
Hash brings nine seasons of coaching experience to the Radford staff. She spent the past two seasons with the Tusculum University Pioneers, where she took over as interim head coach for the final month of the 2025-26 season after previously serving as an assistant coach. In doing so, Hash became the first former Pioneer to play and serve as head coach of the NCAA Division II program.
Holler promoted at RU
Radford women’s basketball head coach Mike McGuire announced Friday morning that graduate assistant Katie Holler is being promoted as an assistant coach and Director of Women›s Basketball Operations. Holler replaces Carlie Clary, who moved into the Radford Athletics administrative office as the Director of Business Operation after spending nine seasons (7 as Director of Basketball Operations) in the program.
Entering her second season with Radford women’s basketball, Holler boasts three seasons of experience as a member of a NCAA Division I program, having spent two seasons as a women’s basketball manager when completing her undergraduate program at Syracuse University.
