The Montgomery County Republican Party has chosen Interim Sheriff Robert Page as its nominee for this November’s special election.

Page outdistanced Tim Shepherd in a Firehouse Primary on Saturday, June 20 at the county’s administration building.

Lines stretched around the building as voting started around 10 a.m. and did not finish until after 4 p.m. Organizers said the total amount of participation was the highest the county’s Republican Party had ever seen.

Shepherd, who was a former sheriff department lieutenant, thanked supporters at the end of the day. Page also thanked his supporters and said now the real work starts as he will face one of three candidates for the Democrats in the November special election.

Candidates will have to run in the special election to complete the final year of the retiring sheriff Hank Partin and then run again in 2027 for a full four-year term.

The Democrats will choose their nominee in August in a full primary through the Montgomery County Registrar’s office. Early voting is open at the MCR office.

Robert Page received 1,259 votes.
