Blacksburg Farmers Market

At Market Square Park, 100 Draper Rd SW, Blacksburg, 2- 6 p.m. The Blacksburg Farmers Market is a local, family-friendly gathering place in downtown Blacksburg featuring farmers of locally grown produce and meats, alongside artisans of baked goods and handmade crafts. Friday July 3:

 

Radford’s Independence Day celebration

The City of Radford will hold an America’s 250th Celebration in Bisset Park. The festivities kick off at 4 p.m. DJ J. Scott Freeman will spin some tunes, along with live music by the Domino Band and the singing of the National Anthem by The Glorylanders. The event also includes a patriotic dog show, food trucks, merchandise vendors, inflatable bouncy houses and games for children. Free t-shirts and other items will be given away while supplies last. The evening will conclude with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

 

Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4:

 

Blacksburg Independence Day closings

The following operating schedules will be in place on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4: Town administrative offices will be closed; Blacksburg Transit: Bus service will operate as scheduled on Friday, July 3, though BT administrative offices will be closed. There will be no bus service on Saturday, July 4. Please plan your travel accordingly; Blacksburg Community Center and Aquatic Center will operate as scheduled on Friday, July 3 and be closed on Saturday, July 4; trash in the SW Quadrant will occur as scheduled on Friday, July 3.

 

Saturday, July 4:

 

Independence Day parade

Blacksburg’s July 4th parade, which is organized by the Mount Tabor Ruritan Club. This year’s theme is “250th Trifecta – Country, Commonwealth and County.” The parade starts at 2 p.m. on Eheart Street in Blacksburg, runs through downtown on Main Street, and ends on Alumni Mall.

 

Blacksburg Farmers Market

Radford Farmers Market

At 600 Unruh Drive, next to Glencoe Mansion, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. More than 40 vendors, including plants, baked goods, fresh eggs, cheeses and meats, craft items, food trucks, coffee and more.

 

Thursday, July 9:

 

Indoor Classical Concert Series

“In the Shadow of Memory: Late-Romantic Violin Sonatas” with Akemi Takayama. At the Creativity and Innovation District Performance Space, 185 Kent St., Blacksburg; 7-8 p.m. Curated by Associate Professor Rick Masters, this indoor concert series offers a welcoming introduction to classical music with performances suited for both newcomers and longtime listeners.

 

Friday, July 10:

 

Outdoor Henderson Lawn concerts

Music Road Co, funk, rock, island reggae, afrobeat, and Latin tunes, will perform on Henderson Lawn, corner of Main Street and College Ave., Blacksburg, 6-7:30 p.m. The Friday evening concerts invite audiences to bring a blanket or lawn chair, a picnic, and enjoy live music in an outdoor setting.

 

Saturday, July 11:

 

Fish Fry

Mount Tabor Ruritan Club July Fish Fry, 5 to 7 p.m. at Slusser’s Chapel Picnic Shelter, 1543 Mount Tabor Rd., Blacksburg. Serving fish, fries and slaw, homemade desserts and beverages. Adults- $12, children under 12- $6, (under 3) -free, carry-outs- $12. The Panjammers Steel Drum Orchestra will be under the music tent. Held rain or shine. Classic movies at the Lyric Theatre

“An American in Paris” (1951) at The Lyric Theatre, 135 College Ave., Blacksburg; 3 p.m. Cool off with free classic films at the historic Lyric Theatre. All films are free and open to the public, with seating available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.

 

Art at the Market

At Draper Road and Farmers Market, Blacksburg; 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. Art at the Market brings 20 of the best local artists to the farmers market. Grab a mimosa and breakfast sandwich from the Downtown Blacksburg Inc. tent while you peruse fine art and local farm products for sale. This year will feature an emerging artist tent.

 

Sunday, July 12:

 

Blacksburg Vintage Market

Shop at the Blacksburg Vintage Market on the second and fourth Sundays of every month, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., for vintage vinyl, clothing, jewelry, books, housewares, oddities and more. Located in downtown Blacksburg at the corner of Roanoke Street and Draper Avenue, in Market Square Park, under the Farmer’s market structure. Plenty of parking is available nearby.

 

Monday, July 13- Wednesday, July 14:

 

Revival

First Missionary Baptist Church-New River, 7318 Manns Drive, Fairlawn, invites you to join our annual revival. Prayer and praise will begin nightly at 7 p.m. Revival services will begin at 7:30 p.m. The revivalist will be: Reverend Thomas Penn, Pastor Big Hill Baptist Church -Salem.

 

Monday, July 13:

 

Radford City Council meeting

The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.

 

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting

Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

 

Tuesday, July 14:

 

Blacksburg Town Council meeting

The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.

 

Christiansburg Town Council meeting

At 7 p.m. at Town Hall,100 E. Main St., Christiansburg. This is a regular meeting of town council. The meeting will be live streamed to the Town’s YouTube page at www.christiansburg.org/YouTube. Please copy and paste the URL into your browser and be sure to select Live videos to view. Agendas and minutes can be viewed at www.christiansburg.org/agendasandminutes.
