Auburn High School finished an unbeaten regular season in softball this spring before falling in the state Class 1 semis.
One of the reasons for that success was first baseman Kaylee Ramrattan, who was named both the Mt. Empire District and Region C player of the year.
Ramrattan hit .506 with seven homeruns during the season with 39 hits and only four strikeouts. She finished with 43 RBIs and 41 scores including two games with three home runs. For her effort, she was named the all-county, all-city player of the year.
The all-county, all-city pitcher of the year is Ramrattan’s teammate, Skyler Hodges, who threw 11 shutouts with a 19-2 overall record.
Auburn Coach Sean Gaynor shared the all-county, all-city coach of the year honors with another first-year coach, Neil Artrip, who guided Eastern Montgomery to a Pioneer District championship.
Ramrattan is the all-county, all-city first baseman, while teammate Skyler Hodges is the pitcher of the year, who had 11 shutouts this season and was 19-2 overall with over 100 strikeouts now for her career.
Hodges was joined in the pitching group by Christiansburg’s Sophia Russell and Eastern Montgomery’s Mary Miller. The 2026 all-county, all-city catcher is Christiansburg’s Reagan Smith, who had 37 hits this season.
Radford’s Quinn Burton is the team’s second baseman, and Auburn’s Johnnie Gaynor was named at shortstop and Eastern Montgomery’s Macie Akers at third.
The group of outfielders for all-county, all-city included Rena Chandler and Kenzie Dunbar of Eastern Montgomery, Kaydence Rollins of Radford, Ariel Mullins of Auburn and Aubrey Davis of Christiansburg. Rollins hit. 426 this season for the Bobcats.
Mullins finished with a .500 batting average and had 21 RBIs. In addition, she was named the VHSL Class 1 Scholar Athlete of the year and was a first-team outfielder on the MED and all-region teams.
Blacksburg’s Ella Watkins is the team’s utility player, and Auburn’s Hope Wilson is the designated hitter.
Two softball players to watch include Auburn’s Johnnie Gaynor, who turned into a speed demon on the bases, swiping 17 this season, and Radford freshman outfielder Rylan Woodfin who hit .400 on the season.
