One of the top lineman in southwest Virginia has announced plans to continue his playing career at East Tennessee State University.
Radford’s Reece Honaker said he chose the Johnson City school because of the amazing coaching staff, elite academics, competitive culture, the area and because it was close to home.
The 6-3, 265 rising senior also received offers from William and Mary, Towson, Campbell, VMI, Bryant, Wagner, Gardner Webb, UT Chattanooga and Georgetown.
East Tennessee has a current enrollment of 13,483 students. The school’s collegiate athletic teams, nicknamed Buccaneers, compete in the NCAA Division I Southern Conference.
The Buccaneers rejoined the Southern Conference in July 2014 after competing in the Atlantic Sun since 2003, when they dropped football. The school restarted football in 2015 after the 12-year hiatus.
Former Virginia Tech defensive line coach J.C. Price joined the staff this past year and served as Honaker’s recruiter.
“I hope to become the best player I can be for my team and also obtain a great education that will set me up for my future. I would also like to be an all-conference player,” Honaker said.
ETSU finished this past season at 7-5 overall. Honaker plans to major in Biology for pre-med.
