Ferns: Dinosaurs of the Plant World
Jordan Metzgar, curator of the Virginia Tech Massey Herbarium, will talk about fantastic ferns, the dinosaurs of the plant world at the Radford Public Library, 1 -2 p.m. Ferns play an important ecological and horticultural role in Virginia. Metzgar will bring live ferns and preserved specimens from the Herbarium collection. The Massey Herbarium is the largest scientific plant collection in Virginia. Metzgar teaches Plant Taxonomy at Virginia Tech, covering plant taxonomy, identification, and diversity. If you’re curious about nature and are interested in fern biodiversity, this program is for you.
Rockin’ Main Street
The final downtown Rockin’ Main Street Concert of the year, 5–9 p.m., on East Main Street, Christiansburg. Kicks off at 5 p.m. with Groove Kontrol performing a mix of R&B, soul, blues and classic rock that everyone knows and loves, followed by the Jason Adamo Band at 7 p.m. bringing a blend of roots rock, Americana and country-tinged pop to close out the night. There also will be games and food trucks on site to keep the whole family entertained. Don’t forget your ID if you plan to grab a drink and bring a lawn chair to settle in and enjoy the music.

August Kids
Radford Clothing Bank’s (RCB) annual August Kids program provides an $85 voucher for each income qualifying student in grades K – 12 attending Radford City Schools to be redeemed at the local Fairlawn Walmart to purchase new school clothing and tennis shoes for each school aged child (K-12) in a family. Screening for eligibility will be Monday, Aug. 3 (10 a.m.- noon and 4- 6 p.m.) at Central Church, 803 Wadsworth St., Radford. For more information, call RCB at 540-633-5050. Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting
Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. Blacksburg en Blanc
Annual picnic fundraiser inspired by the concept Diner en Blanc, a popular outdoor dining experience across the world, hosted by the Blacksburg Museum & Cultural Foundation, along with an auction of artworks from local artists who exhibited at the museum in 2026, and package deals from local businesses, restaurants and hotels. Proceeds provide funds for: Exhibit redesign at St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall– There are plans to reopen the St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall to the public in 2027 and funds will be used for the interior and exterior elements of the exhibition redesign.
