The rollercoaster continued to run this week for the Virginia Tech athletics department as several coaches received contract extensions and two department staffers were sent packing.
Mike Young (men’s basketball), Megan Duffy (women’s basketball), Mike Brinzendine (men’s soccer), Pete D’Amour (softball) and Sergi López Miró have all received extensions.
Young has received an additional year through the 2027-2028 season.
Duffy has also received a one-year extension, while D’Amour has gotten a two-year extension.
Lopez Miro’s contract is for another three years through the 2031 swim season.
Brinzendine’s contract will now expire in 2028.
But further down the hall, two associate athletic directors are looking for a new job.
Brad Wurthman and Bridget McSorley were let go by the athletic department.
Wurthman might be the biggest head-scratcher as he was the front man for bringing Metallica to Lane Stadium a year ago. He was associate athletic director for external operations and chief revenue officer.
