The Blacksburg Junior Women’s Club (BJWC) recently donated school supplies to all five local elementary schools in Blacksburg, helping provide students and teachers with resources as they begin a new school year. The donation reflects BJWC’s ongoing commitment to serving the Montgomery County community. BJWC is a group of women dedicated to serving their community, supporting local causes, developing leadership skills and building lasting friendships. Through volunteer projects, fundraising efforts, social events and community partnerships, members work together to make a positive difference in the lives of those around them.
BJWC is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), an organization that has been bringing women together in service since 1890. GFWC creates inclusive communities around the world and includes approximately 60,000 members across the United States, including the District of Columbia, as well as members in 12 countries.
GFWC volunteers make a global impact through their commitment to improving the lives of others. Members vary in age, talent, location, background, and profession, but are united by a shared dedication to community service.The school supplies that were distributed were donated on behalf of GFWC VA through their Advocates for Children Special Program at their most recent conference in Natural Bridge.Women age 18 and older who live in Montgomery County or the surrounding area are invited to learn more about becoming part of BJWC. The club will hold its first meeting and membership information session of the year Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the Blacksburg Police Department Community Room.Whether you are new to the area or looking for meaningful ways to become more involved in the community, BJWC welcomes women who want to serve, connect, and make a difference.
