June Dawson, 73, of Manhattan, New York passed away unexpectedly May 15, 2024 in that city.
She was born in Galveston, Texas, the daughter of Wilfred Thomas Dawson and Nita Logan Dawson, but lived in five separate states as she grew up while her father’s career with CBS involved a number of transfers. She was a graduate of Green Mountain College in Vermont. Her adult years were spent as a Confidential Secretary for The Metropolitan Transit Authority of New York, from which she was recently retired.
She is survived by her mother, her sister Diane Dawson Hearn and husband Walter, all of Blacksburg; niece Leana Beth Hearn Fischer and husband Dan of Christiansburg; niece Melanie June Hearn Hay and husband John of Kingston, New York; and numerous cousins.
June enjoyed the simple things in life: walks on familiar city streets, gatherings with friends to celebrate holidays, birthdays or various outings, and dining at her favorite neighborhood restaurants where all the wait staff knew her. Most of all she cherished her visits to Blacksburg to visit her beloved family and enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings. Hers was a gentle and compassionate nature, quick to smile or offer a kind word. To all who knew her she was charm itself and a gift of life.
Graveside services will be held at Memorial Gardens in Blacksburg Tuesday, May 28 at 11 a.m. with Father Wade Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a favorite charity and please give a hug to your loved ones in memory of June.
