CHRISTIANSBURG – Four Christiansburg firefighters, who are also military veterans, have received Quilts of Valor in honor of their service.

Matt Thompson, Floyd Childress and John Epperly served in the Army and the Marine Corps and were awarded Quilts of Valor Tuesday, Aug. 6 at the Christiansburg Fire Department. Terry Delaney, who served in the US Air Force, was awarded a Quilt of Valor on Thursday, Aug. 8.  Delaney served during the Vietnam era and was awarded the Vietnam lapel pin.

The quilts were made by quilters of the NRV Quilts of Valor Quilters group.

“It has been a special way to recognize and thank veterans for their service to our nation since 2003,” said Jenny Fields, who leads the NRV QOV group. “QOV has recently surpassed 389,000 quilts awarded nationwide.”

“A Quilt of Valor is more than just a handmade quilt; it embodies gratitude, respect, and appreciation for those who have served our nation,” according to the QOV Foundation. “These meticulously crafted quilts, whether machine or hand quilted, hold within their stitches a profound recognition of the struggles and triumphs of our service members. The Quilts of Valor Foundation aims to wrap these individuals in a tangible reminder of our nation’s deep respect for their service and sacrifice.”

Anyone may nominate a veteran online the QOV website, QOVF.org.
