RADFORD – Radford City Public Schools has announced its four school-level Teachers of the Year for the 2024-25 school year.
The four winners will vie for the title of RCPS Teacher of the Year, with the division-wide winner going into the running for a state award.
The McHarg Teacher of the Year is first grade teacher Katie Bondurant. The Belle Heth Teacher of the Year is art teacher Michelle Saunders. The John Dalton Intermediate School Teacher of the Year is reading specialist Kelly Morris. The Radford High School Teacher of the Year is science teacher Jeff Brown.
“Each Teacher of the Year was nominated and chosen by their colleagues and administrators for their outstanding dedication and performance as a teacher,” said RCPS Assistant Superintendent Dr. Melissa McDaniel. “Each school’s Teacher of the Year will submit an application to be considered for the honor of the RCPS Division-wide Teacher of the Year to be chosen in January. “This is a fairly rigorous process that requires letters of recommendation, essays, and other information about the background and experience of the teachers,” she continued. “We had many deserving teachers who could have been chosen for this honor and we are very proud of this year’s group who were recognized by their colleagues.”
According to McDaniel, the RCPS Division Teacher of the Year will be named at the School Board meeting in January and will send an application in for the Virginia Department of Education Teacher of Year.
