NRVRC Valley-to-Valley Corridor Study survey available

The New River Valley Regional Commission is seeking public input on the Valley-to-Valley Corridor Study.

The project’s aim is to complete the scope of work from the 2019 Valley to Valley Trail Study, which was finalized by VDOT in 2024.

The Valley-to-Valley Corridor Study will allow project partners to preserve rights-of-way for a future multijurisdictional bicycle and pedestrian trail connecting the New River Trail State Park to the Roanoke River Greenway.

The study will help identify the best route to connect the Greenway in Roanoke County to the New River Trail State Park in Pulaski County, while also tying in other key recreational assets in the New River Valley, such as the Huckleberry Trail. The goal is to find a route that reflects community priorities and can be built in stages – starting with sections that are ready for near-term construction and eventually creating a larger, connected trail network.

A community engagement survey lets users select their preferred routes from the three highest-ranked alignments of each section (Pulaski to Radford, Radford to Blacksburg/Christiansburg, and Blacksburg/Christiansburg to Roanoke County), as identified in the 2024 study. The survey also includes an option to “build your own route” using previously identified trail segments from the 2024 study.

Information on upcoming public engagement meetings about this project will be communicated as details become available.

The survey will remain open through October and can be found at https://connectnrv.mysocialpinpoint.com/valley-to-valley.
