Christiansburg town council is moving ahead with another part of a long-awaited drainage project.
This past week, two College Street bids were approved to build out more new piping in areas that are prone to flood problems.
Council awarded a construction contract to Jones Road & Bridge, Inc. for the College Street Drainage Improvements – Phase II project in the amount of $2,931,160.
This project consists of a new storm drainage pipe network and inlets, and construction of a new stormwater storage basin.
It also includes sanitary and waterline relocations and adjustments, sidewalk, curb and gutter, asphalt mill and overlay, and associated appurtenances.
Council also awarded a construction, engineering and inspection (CEI) task order to Rummel, Klepper & Kahl LLP (RK&K) for the College Street Drainage Improvements – Phase II project in the amount of $180,009.
Construction is expected to start later this fall and could take up to a year to be completed.
The bids are a part of the much larger drainage project, which has been ongoing for the past six years.
Most recently, work along Hickok Street has been slowed as part of the overall replacement. The street has been closed for over two years.
