RADFORD – Radford High School Principal Adam Simpson announced Monday seniors Michael Baron, Olivia Close and Miles Goff have been named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Letters of Commendation from Radford High School and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, were presented by the principal to the “scholastically talented seniors,” according to an announcement by RHS.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2027 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2027 competition by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
“Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said an NMSC spokesperson. “These students represent a valuable national resource. Recognizing their accomplishments and the key role their schools play is vital to educational excellence. We hope this recognition will broaden their educational opportunities and encourage continued academic success.”
