Nothing is more celebratory or comforting than a warm cookie. Snoopy of Peanuts comic strip fame has been known to coin the praise “happiness is a warm cookie.”
A Blacksburg business, Campus Cookies, is delivering those treats of happiness right to customers’ doors.
Campus Cookies is located at 1282 N Main St. The aroma of freshly baked cookies drifts a block away from bakery’s entrance. Open from 6 p.m.-1 a.m. Sunday through Tuesday and until 2 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday, Campus Cookies offers 22 varieties of cookies along with seasonal cookies like pumpkin or caramel oatmeal in the fall and gingerbread and sugar cookies around Christmas.
Brownies, milks, cinnamon rolls and six flavors of ice cream are also available to order by phone or at campuscookies.com.
Anna Cheplick, one of the store’s managers, showed off the care packages available for ordering that comes with balloons and gift items to match themes like birthdays, holidays, celebrations, get well wishes, welcoming and even encouragements to study.
Holidays are usually busy times at Campus Cookies.
However, “Reading and exam days are busy and increase the demand for cookies,” Cheplick said.
Campus Cookies business was the brainchild of Scott Davidson who attended James Madison University and opened his first shop at JMU ten years ago.
The Campus Cookies shop has been located near the Virginia Tech campus for eight years. According to manager, Steven Sherry, Campus Cookies is student-operated.
“The hardest part of working here is not eating the cookies. But, the best part of this job is the cookies which are the best to eat,” employee Kate Martelino, who was decorating cookies, said.
“We are proud to make these treats fresh and we have a great gift system. Parents of VT students like the idea of sending freshly made goodies to their children,” Sherry said.
Once an order is received, dough is prepared for the ovens and scrumptious cookies are ready for delivery in about 45 minutes within the Blacksburg area.
Customers can track their order by email and texts. Delivery drivers will call or text the recipients to arrange a time and location to present the cookies at their freshest.
Opening a box can reveal not only sweet childhood memories but also an artistic rendering. Often, the inside of the cardboard container may contain a drawing rendered by a creative delivery driver.
Everyone can agree that cookies, whatever the flavor, are something to celebrate or to bring comfort, especially if delivered to your doorstep.
