James Richard Trail, Jr., 80, of Radford passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 1, 1938, a son of the late James R. and Jeannie Nance Trail.
He retired from Lynchburg Foundry with 33 years of service and also served in the Virginia National Guard and the Army Reserve. James was also preceded in death by six sisters, Eleanor Myers, Nancy Viers, Isabel Simpkins, Jeanette Dickerson, Frances Harris and Judy Sarver, and a brother, Dan Trail.
James liked to hunt and fish and will be missed by his friends he would meet each week by the river.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Hattie Ethel Altizer Trail; son and daughter-in-law, David and Sherry Trail of Radford; grandson, Ethan A. Trail of Radford; two brothers, Tom (Mary Jane) Trail of Radford and Robert (Loraine) Trail of S.C.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 12 – 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ersel Alderman and Rev. David Trail officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Dublin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
