Hokie drafted by WNBA
Virginia Tech redshirt senior forward Regan Magarity was drafted 33rd by the Connecticut Sun in the 2019 WNBA Draft held in New York City. She becomes just the fifth Hokie to be selected to the WNBA and the first since 2007.
Magarity, goes down in history as one of the best to put on a maroon and orange jersey for the Hokies after completing a career that includes owning the career rebounding record, finishing third all-time in scoring, third in blocks and tied for 10thin 3-point field goals made.
The first woman in Virginia Tech history to record 1,000 rebounds, corralled an ACC record 1,299 during her career and the Sweden native owns the three highest single-season rebound tallies in program history, leading the conference in that category with 12.8 per game this past season.
Magarity also is third in career field goals made, and first in starts, games played and minutes played in Blacksburg. Her 55 career double-doubles top the charts as well.
In 2018-19 Magarity earned ACC Player of the Week honors on Feb.4 for her role in the Hokies’ first two conference victories, both on the road where she averaged 22 points and 15.5 rebounds. She poured in a career best 30 against Boston College during that road stretch.
The 6-foot-3 forward earned second team All-ACC honors this season where she averaged 14.1 points and 12.8 rebounds. Magarity who already graduated with a degree in multimedia journalism is a three-time All-ACC Academic selection.
Magarity becomes the first Hokie to be drafted since Nare Diawara in 2007.
