Just prior to Christmas, Santa took time away from the North Pole to travel to Linden Green and the Y Thrift Shop to help distribute holiday meal kits for the families and special gifts for each child during Meals On Main.
Santa took time out for a last-minute check-in with local children before his big night of worldwide deliveries on Christmas Eve.
Making donations were The Salvation Army (hams and turkeys), the NRV Glean Team (potatoes), Next Door Bake Shop and Our Daily Bread (desserts), PetSmart (plush toys for the children).
Meals On Main operates five days a week at five different sites and provides five shelf-stable meals, snacks, and milk to all children under 18.
The 2022 schedule for meal distribution will be as follows: Mondays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Adams Marke Mobile Home Community, 330 Merrimac Rd. Blacksburg.
Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oak Forest Mobile Home Community, 1156 Hightop Rd., Blacksburg.
Tuesdays from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. Hollins Estate, 301 Givens Lane Lot 143 Blacksburg.
Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Linden Green Community, 1600 Simpson Rd NE Christiansburg.
Fridays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Y Center, 1000 North Main St. Blacksburg.
Through its Meals on Main initiative, the YMCA at Virginia Tech relieves some of the pressure faced by families facing food insecurity.
Meals on Main currently needs brown paper shopping bags to contain the meals. To donate them, drop them off at the YMCA Thrift Shop at 1000 N. Main St., Blacksburg.
