Christiansburg High School has named a new girls’ cross-country coach.
On Monday, Athletic Director Tim Cromer announced the appointment of Evan Sparks to the post.
Sparks, who is a history teacher at the school, admitted he wanted to get more involved with the school and this seemed like a great opportunity.
“The head boys cross country coach reached out over the summer and let me know about the opening, and I was immediately interested,” he said.
The new coach hopes to help the team achieve its full potential.
“This team has a lot of young talent and the potential to be one of the best groups in Virginia.”
Sparks is originally from Floyd and did not run cross country or track while in school there. He played other sports and only got into running independently when in college.
This will be his first time coaching the sport.
