CHRISTIANSBURG – The Montgomery County Circuit Court Clerk’s office has started a new service called Property Notification, a website that will allow citizens and property owners to register to be notified by e-mail when the name that they register is included on a land record document recorded in the Montgomery County Circuit Court Clerk’s office.
There is a link to the new Property Notification site on the Clerk’s secure remote access site at https://montgomeryvalandrecords.org/.
The site allows residents to register their names and be notified by e-mail whenever any document is filed in the office with that name. In addition, it allows people to keep an eye out for family members and receive notification if any documents are filed with their names. The email that is sent when there is a name match will contain the name matched, date of filing, and other identifying information.
“This service will be offered free of charge to those impacted by documents filed in our office,” said Montgomery County Circuit Court Clerk Tiffany M. Couch. “While deed fraud has not been an issue in Montgomery County, I understand that fraudulent activity in land record filings is on the rise in Virginia and across the nation. I hope that this new service will act as a deterrent to fraudulent activity in Montgomery County. If there is a fraudulent or otherwise inappropriate filing in our office, we hope that this timely notice to registered users will allow that fraud to be addressed quickly to mitigate any damages.”
