Martens, David Charles

David Charles Martens, age 83, of Blacksburg died, Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, at Kroontje Health Care Center.

He was born in Shawano, Wisconsin on April 17, 1933 to the late Paul and Frances Doran Martens. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Martens.

Mr. Martens was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Air Force. He retired from Virginia Tech Department of Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences having taught Soil Chemistry for 34 years. He was a member of Blacksburg Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn H. Martens, sons and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey D. Martens, of Baltimore,  Maryland, Bradley P. and Karen O. Martens, of Blacksburg; grandchildren, David Martens and Katelyn Martens, of Blacksburg; sister, Joann Heling, of Shawano, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Sandra Martens, Shawano, Wisconsin.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the Blacksburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Millsaps and Dr. Don McKinney officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg.
