Renick, Marcenia L. Akers

Marcenia L. Akers Renick passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017. She was born in Floyd County on Nov. 30, 1918 to the late Rufus and Virginia Harris Linkous.


Marcenia was a member of Christiansburg Church of the Brethren for many years and attended Bible study at Asbury United Methodist Church.

Besides her parents, Marcenia was preceded in death by her husbands, Glen L. Akers and James R. Renick; son, Gerald L. Akers; brothers, Melvin Linkous, Oliver J. Linkous, Roscoe Linkous, Bittle Linkous and Clarence Linkous; and daughter-in-law, Sharon S. Akers.

Marcenia is survived by a son, Donald G. Akers; daughter, Hazel A. Pierson and husband, David; brother, Luke Edward Linkous; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, special friends and neighbors.

The family would like to thank the staff at Springtree Health & Rehab for their care and compassion.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. March 15 at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Warren Brown and Pastor Wes Agee officiating. Interment followed in Topeka Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Christiansburg Church of the Brethren, 310 South Franklin St., Christiansburg, VA 24073 or Faith Baptist Church, 5956 Floyd Hwy, Check, VA 24072.
