John David Olinger, Sr., 86 of Christiansburg died Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Commonwealth Senior Living. He was born to the late Claude Harrison and Virginia Ethel Surface Olinger on April 4, 1931.


He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Mullins Olinger. He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, John “J.D.”, Jr. and Tammy Olinger, Charlie “Chuck” Olinger and companion, April Long; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Mike Meadows, Becky and Roger Broce, and Karen and Chip Craven; sister, Betty Mae Surbaugh; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as several other relatives.

The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living and Intrepid Hospice.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel today, Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gary McCoy officiating. The family will receive friends today at 12-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
