Stay and Play, a Library Playgroup

Every Wednesday after Storytime, 10:30 – 11:30 AM, Blacksburg Library

Under their parent’s supervision, babies and toddlers can play during this informal gathering. This program is for ages 0-4 and meets in the Storytime room.

Parents and caregivers are invited to socialize while supervising an informal play group for their babies and toddlers. Ages 0-4 years.

Club M.O.M. (Meeting Other Munchkins)

Every Wednesday after Storytime, 11:15 AM – 12:15 PM, Jessie Peterman Library, Floyd

This play group will meet every Wednesday there is a Storytime planned. Relatives can relax and have a cup of tea while their children play with blocks and other toys.

Art Exhibit: Debby Freed with DSF Ceramics

All Month of October, at the Blacksburg Library

Based in Montgomery County, Artist Debby Freed works from her home. Her pieces are hand built, using slab, pinch pot, coil, and other hand building techniques. A member of Round the Mountain and the Blue Ridge Potters Guild, Freed takes part in the annual Potters Guild shows.

Art Exhibit: Kathy Elich

All Month of October, at the Blacksburg Library

Kathy Elich is a printmaker, potter and painter living and working in the Appalachian Mountains just outside of Blacksburg, Virginia. In the work exhibited here, Kathy utilizes multiple primitive printmaking techniques: serigraphy, linoleum/wood block, letterpress and calligraphy. A serigraph is a fine art, limited edition print created using screen printing techniques. Most of the pieces depict people, animals or places that are important to the artist. Her work in all mediums is often on display and available for purchase at Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea of Blacksburg, which is owned and managed by Kathy’s husband, Scott.

This month we are having a scary short story contest. Any young writer willing to submit a piece – go for it! We will post the story we judge the best combination of scary, suspenseful, and well written. All who submit will be acknowledged! Ages 8 years and up.

Come to the library to build and create with hundreds of Legos for all ages.

Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library Trustees will meet on October 17, 7:00 PM at the Jessie Peterman Library in Floyd.

Art Club

This month we explore the art of Alexander Calder and create mini sculptures inspired by his work. For ages 5 years and up.

 

Great American Read Book Club Thursday, October 18, 2:00 – 3:00 PM at the Blacksburg Library Join us for a three part book club to pick Blacksburg’s “Great American Read!” Choose from a selection of books for each session and be ready to discuss which book should be the best that month! October will focus on “Love” and “Other Worlds.”

Pick out a free costume for children or adults while costumes last. First come first served.

Sign up at the front desk for a 15 minute slot to read to a cat from the Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center to practice reading and socialize shelter cats. All ages.
