Within a scream of where it happened, New River Stage will present their fall production of “Three Sisters Dressed in Black,” a story of murder close to home—of three spooky school marms sartorially limited to black veils and gowns, who once oversaw the Montgomery Female College on College Avenue in Christiansburg.

The plot coagulates around the women, dead husbands, insurance money, kerosene, and whispers about a lost baby.

The much-lauded theater troupe will present the strange tale at Warm Hearth’s Village Center (2387 Warm Hearth Dr. Blacksburg), Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. and a Sunday matinee, Oct. 21 in the light of day at 3 p.m.

Then, for a thrill, within sight of the school, easy to imagine a dark figure in piney shadows up on the hill, Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Building (400 College Ave.).

It’s a legend that lurks among us still. The sisters are buried in Christiansburg’s Sunset Cemetery – at least one, anyway, but all of the characters meeting bizarre (rumor has it one starving herself to death) ends.
