Nationally renown local artist, Jeanette Bowker, exhibits her work at Montgomery Museum, opening reception May 9

The Montgomery Museum is pleased to announce the opening of our new art exhibit featuring work by nationally renowned local artist Jeanette Bowker.


Prose Poem by local artist Jeanette Bowker whose art will be on display at the Montgomery Museum beginning May 9.

After earning degrees from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, University of Rhode Island, and Virginia Tech, Bowker taught for 26 years in the Virginia Tech interior design program where she was head of the Department of Housing, Interior Design, and Resource Management.

Upon retirement Jeanette has pursued her own career in painting, both in watercolor and acrylics.

“Throughout my years of education, I enrolled in art courses that gave me experience working with various artists, experimenting with different mediums, and studying art history,” she said in an announcement. “Since retiring I have focused on art interests in  water mediums watercolors and acrylics.”

Her work “Looking at Earth” is in the Smithsonian’s permanent collection.

She has attended workshops taught by nationally recognized watercolorists including Don Andrews, Sterling Edwards, and Z.L. Feng and has also studies with highly respected regional artists Vera Dickerson and Robin Poteet.

Recent juried shows in which her work has been included are the New River Art Biennial, Central Virginia Watercolor Guild, and Virginia Watercolor Society.

The Bowker exhibit will be on display at the Montgomery Museum from May 6 through June 28.

The opening reception will be on Thursday, May 9 from 5-7 p.m. at the museum and is open to the public.
