Garland F. (Jerry) Oliver

Garland F. (Jerry) Oliver, 76, of  Christiansburg went to his heavenly home Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland “Bentley” and Iona Johnson Oliver, an infant brother, Stephen, and a brother, Michael. 

Jerry retired from the postal service at Virginia Tech. He was a faithful member of Blacksburg Christian Church, serving as a deacon, a choir member, and a waffle maker at the fifth Sunday breakfast.

He is survived by his wife, Emily A. Oliver; a son, Steve Oliver (Hope); a stepson, Chris Wikstrom (Amanda); grandchildren Ashley Oliver, Kayla Blankenship, Cooper, Winnie, Hudson, and Lorelei Wikstrom who dearly loved their “Pops”; and great-grandchildren Deklan and Larkin Hatch. He is also survived by sisters Joyce Belshan, Sharon Akers, and Rhonda Smith; brothers Phillip Oliver and Marc Oliver; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eleanor King, Kitty Collins, Sandy Albert, Mitch and Diana Albert, and Kenneth Akers; a special niece, Valerie Molle; and several nieces and nephews.  The family sends special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice, especially Kayla and Brittany, as well as Mary Ann Harris and her staff for their care of Jerry. 

Graveside services were conducted Saturday, March 19, 2022, in the Centennial Christian Church Cemetery, McCoy, Va. with the Rev. Gary McCoy and the Rev. J.B. Beane officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Christian Church, 240 Watson Ave., Blacksburg, Va. 24060. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
