Downtown Blacksburg, Inc., has revealed the winning T-shirt design for the 2022 Steppin’ Out festival. The winning designer is Cedar Krisch, an 18-year-old recent graduate of Blacksburg High School.

The Steppin’ Out t-shirt will be printed by downtown Blacksburg business High Peak Sportswear and will be available to purchase in mid-June from Fringe Benefit, New River Art & Fiber, Atlantic Union Bank’s North Main Street location, and Blacksburg Hardware.

Krisch, who has been interested in art from an early age, created the design digitally, but he has experience in a wide variety of art subjects including traditional, digital, sculpture, and fashion.

This fall Krisch will attend Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts, with plans to major in either graphic design or fashion design. After finishing college, Krisch’s goal is to create and market a line of gender neutral clothing.

“I want to create fashion that is accessible to anyone regardless of gender, size, or income, while still incorporating the over-the-top designs that I enjoy,” he said.

An annual festival in downtown Blacksburg held this year on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5 and 6, Steppin’ Out will feature three stages of live entertainment and more than 250 artists and craftsmen from throughout the United States selling unique handcrafted items.

Sidewalk sales and festival foods will be provided by downtown merchants. To be a festival sponsor or to volunteer to help with the festival, visit the Downtown Blacksburg, Inc., website at www.downtownblacksburg.com.
