Carole Ann Anthony Poland

Carole Ann Anthony Poland, of Blacksburg, passed away on May 30, 2022.

Born in Campbell County, Va., on Nov. 10, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Victor B. Anthony III and Bernice Vaughan Anthony. 

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James H. Poland; her son, Stephen Poland and his wife, Sally; her daughter, Susan Giancola and her husband, Tom; grandchildren William and James Poland and Emma and Mia Giancola; brothers Leslie G. Anthony and his wife, Diane, Larry H. Anthony and his wife, Susan, and the Rev. David B. Anthony and his wife, Stephanie; as well as April Hudgins and a number of nieces and nephews. 

She was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School (1961) and Virginia Commonwealth University (1982) and was a member of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and a Paul Harris Fellow. She was past president of The Old Stone Church Foundation of the Virginia United Methodist Conference Historical Society and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Along with her husband, she was a member of the UT Prosim Society of Virginia Tech.

The family will receive friends at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022. Graveside service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be in Carole’s memory to the Good Samaritan Hospice at goodsam.care/giving/memorial-or-honor-donation/ or 1160 Moose Drive, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
