Carmen Fernandez Sweeney, 88, of Blacksburg, formerly of Mandeville, La., died Dec. 2, 2019, at her home.
She was born in Norco, La., on June 10, 1931, to the late Alvin J. and Lucille Lehmann Fernandez. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Shannon Ann Sweeney, and a sister, Mrs. Betty Jo Guttuso.
She is survived by daughters Dr. Erin S. Champagne (Tom) and Kerry S. Lockamy (Bill); two granddaughters,Dr. Stephanie G. McGarvey (James) and Dr. Camille W. Graham; a great-grandchild, Clare; a sister, Lucile (Bobbie) Siragusa; as well as many beloved family and friends.
Carmen was a longtime member of the Catholic Church having attended local churches where she lived. She enjoyed art, music, cooking, and time with family. She was a devoted wife and mother.
A memorial will be held at a later date in Louisiana.
