One-on-one and group instruction with Literacy Volunteers of the New River Valley continues at locations across the New River Valley as well as virtually.

With a variety of classes and programs throughout the service area, “we’ve had many exciting opportunities to celebrate our Literacy Superheroes this spring,” LVNRV announced.

“To me, there’s nothing more important than parents reading to their children, and when parents can read to their children, it makes a bond that the children never forget when they grow up,” said Family READS tutor Joy Burroughs.

“We were thrilled to expand our signature Family READS family literacy program to three locations this spring, including Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and the Lafayette community in Shawsville,” the announcement reads. “Made possible through the hard work of lead instructor Jill Wheeler and more than 30 volunteer tutors, the program helped 36 adults and 47 children reach their goals to build their English language skills, improve communication with teachers and doctors, and succeed with schoolwork.”
