The Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library (MFRL) announces the launch the 2025 “Color Our World” Summer Reading Program, inviting children, teens, and adults to celebrate imagination, creativity, and the joy of reading all summer long. Program dates: Kids and teens: May 27 – July 19 and adults: May 31 – July 31.

Kick-Off Event Join MFRL on May 28 at the Christiansburg Library, 3–5 p.m., for our grand kick-off celebration. Festivities include the Little Critters Petting Zoo, face painting, and a sweet treat.
Program Highlights Wolf Trap Institute Presents: Going Buggy! Interactive storytelling, puppetry, and music bring insect tales from around the world to life. Tampa Taiko Using taiko drums crafted from repurposed barrels, Sensei Ron Collins entertains and educates with a thrilling presentation of this ancient Japanese art form. Mush! With Sled Dog Noggin Musher Karen Land shares the fascinating tradition of dog mushing, featuring her sled dog, Noggin. Bubble Brigade Enjoy a summer foam and bubble party – fun for all ages. For Adults: Summer reading fun isn’t just for kids. Join the Adult Summer Reading Challenge, designed just for grownups. Read great books, complete fun activities, and enjoy engaging events like 80s & 90s trivia nights, puzzle tournaments, and book exchanges. You can also enter to win exciting prizes, including a $100 gift card. Prizes for everyone: All participants will be entered into weekly prize drawings featuring gift cards and coupons from local businesses. Weekly events for all ages From story times and craft workshops to trivia nights and puzzle tournaments, MFRL branches will host a variety of events every week. - Read and complete activities: Track your reading and activities via the Beanstack app, website, or a paper log available at your library.
- Join the Fun: Attend events, complete challenges, and read all summer long. Why join? Summer reading helps prevent the “summer slide” in academic skills, promotes family engagement and lifelong learning, and makes reading fun! It’s a wonderful way to stay curious, creative, and connected during the summer months.
